NYSDOL publication P197, "Protecting Outdoor Workers from Extreme Weather: Wildfire Smoke Hazards", is employer GUIDANCE (advisory, framed with "should"), not a New York State wildfire-smoke standard. Metric: AQI for PM2.5 (AirNow, by ZIP). AQI 150-299: relocate work, change schedules and/or reduce intensity; offer breaks in effectively filtered enclosed buildings, structures or vehicles; provide filtering facepiece respirators for voluntary use. AQI 300 and beyond: cancel, reschedule and/or move work indoors; filtered-air breaks; if cancelling is not an option, provide respirators for mandatory use under the employer respiratory protection program, NIOSH-approved with an assigned protection factor of 25 or more. Also: 32 ounces of cool drinking water per hour regardless of air quality or weather.

The drag-to-check calculator needs JavaScript. Every value it can show is a row of the table below, which is computed by the same engine.
No standalone formula is published for this standard; see programmable logic and parameters below.
| AQI for PM2.5 | Respirator requirement |
|---|---|
| 149 | AQI for PM2.5 is below the 150 tier in NYSDOL P197 (advisory guidance). |
| 150.1 | Voluntary — AQI for PM2.5 150–299 (respirator voluntary) |
| 300.1 | Full RPP — AQI for PM2.5 ≥ 300 (cancel or move indoors; respirators mandatory if work continues) |
Wildfire smoke overlays are excluded from the work/rest composite and are never averaged with WBGT-based standards.
