Ghana Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulations 2012 (L.I. 2182) reg 180 — mine wet-bulb 32.5 °C ceiling; 27 °C longer breaks — Heat Stress Screening Thresholds

Regulation 180(1): the mine manager must ensure the wet bulb temperature at any working place or travelling way does not exceed 32.5 °C, except in the course of attempting to lower the temperature, emergency response training, or an emergency. Regulation 180(2): the manager must provide longer breaks and a reduced working time for workmen if the wet bulb temperature in the mine exceeds 27 °C.

Check a reading against this rule

This rule has no numeric trigger the calculator evaluates — it states duties and control measures rather than a threshold a reading can be checked against. Its measures are listed below.

Governing formula

No standalone formula is published for this standard; see programmable logic and parameters below.

Screening thresholds

ParameterValue
maxWetBulbC32.5
longerBreaksAboveWetBulbC27

Programmable logic

wetBulbC > 32.5: exceeds the reg 180(1) ceiling. wetBulbC > 27: longer breaks and reduced working time (reg 180(2)). Exactly 27 or 32.5 does not trigger. No break length or hours specified. Applies to mines (industry mining); exceptions for lowering temperature, emergency training and emergencies are not modelled.

Inputs

Required inputs: wetBulbC

Optional inputs: none
