Germany Klima-Bergverordnung (KlimaBergV) ss3, 4, 7 — underground mining climate: hour caps and extra breaks — Heat Stress Screening Thresholds

KlimaBergV (9 June 1983, BGBl. I S. 685) governs the working time in underground mining at high climate loads. Outside salt mining the metric is effective temperature ET (Anlage 1 diagram from dry bulb, wet bulb and air speed): from ET 25 °C or dry bulb 28 °C persons may be employed at most 6 h/day if they spend more than 3 h/day above 28 °C dry bulb (up to ET 29 °C) or at ET 25-29 °C, and at most 5 h/day if more than 2.5 h/day are spent at ET 29-30 °C (s3 Nr.1); extra breaks of 10 min at ET above 29-30 °C and 20 min above 30 °C (s7); no employment above ET 30 °C (s4(1)), with an individual exception up to ET 32 °C (s4(2)). Salt mining runs on dry bulb (s3 Nr.2, s7 Nr.2).

Check a reading against this rule

This rule has no numeric trigger the calculator evaluates — it states duties and control measures rather than a threshold a reading can be checked against. Its measures are listed below.

Programmable logic

airTempC > 28: the regulation applies. Outside salt mining only the s3 Nr.1a dry-bulb cap is modelled (6 h/day if more than 3 h/day above 28 °C dry bulb, up to ET 29 °C); the ET tiers (5 h cap, 10 and 20 min breaks, no work above ET 30 °C, s4 exceptions) need the Anlage 1 effective temperature, which is not computed.

Salt mining (s3 Nr.2, s7 Nr.2) is encoded in full on dry bulb: above 28 to 37 °C 7 h/day if more than 5 h/day spent there; above 37 to 46 °C 7 h/day if more than 4.5 h/day, plus a 15 min break; above 46 to 52 °C 6.5 h/day if more than 4 h/day, plus a 30 min break (above 46 °C the 30 min break rule applies). Upper bounds inclusive, lower bounds exclusive.

Above 52 °C the s5 prohibition text was not read, so no limit is applied. The hours-per-day conditions are reported as conditional because the calculator has no hours-in-band or salt/non-salt input. Not modelled: s4(2)-(4) exceptions, s6 travel time, s8 acclimatisation, s9 age restrictions, s10 rescue exemption, s11 measurement cadence.
